The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has scheduled a public meeting on Monday April 25 to discuss white-tailed deer management on Drummond Island.

DNR officials encourage area residents and other interested stakeholders to attend the meeting to talk with local DNR staff about the island’s deer management options.

The meeting will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday April 25 at the Drummond Island Resort “Lodge,” located at 33494 South Maxton Road on Drummond Island.

The new Drummond Island Comprehensive Resources Management Plan was developed to guide the DNR in its management of state forest, wildlife and related public-trust natural resources on the roughly 126-square-mile island, which is situated in Lake Huron in Chippewa County.

Within the plan, there are deer management options outlined as potential changes. These changes were not accepted with the rest of the plan and will be discussed at this meeting.

Editor’s note: It is yet to be determined what individuals, who cannot attend, can do to express their opinions.
